Dialogue & Reconciliation Network
We are a group of people interested in promoting peace in Israel / Palestine and in the wider Middle East. In doing this we are engaging with Jewish and Muslim communities in Leeds.
Over the last few years we have carried out a range of activities: we have organised three pilgrimages to Israel / Palestine, formed a study group with members of the local Jewish community to look at the Israel / Palestine issue and organised a joint Christian / Jewish fact finding visit to Israel / Palestine. A number from the church have visited Auschwitz along with members of the Leeds Jewish community and participated in some of their holocaust memorial commemorations. In the spring of 2016 some of the network helped to organise Standing Together, an event at which nearly a hundred Jews, Christians and Muslims in the city came together to say 'no' to violence in the name of faith (see picture). We have written newspaper and journal articles jointly with a leader of the Jewish community and a local imam.
At the current time as part of the follow up to Standing Together we are enabling small groups from the three Abrahamic faiths to discuss issues such as how we bring up young people in our three faiths, religious fundamentalism and violence in the name of religion. A pilgrimage is being planned for October 2017.
Members attend various meetings and events organised by members of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities.
Over the term we have a number of other groups that meet focused around particular passions or interests, these range from scenic walks to toddler Play & Pray mornings. For more information click below
