Charlotte recently finished the Alpha Course and shares her experience with us. Tell us a bit about yourself: I was born in Leeds and have lived here most of my life. I work in Administration and Event Security. I'm a keen golfer and Leeds United fan!
Why did you decide to do Alpha? I had been attending St George’s regularly for about six weeks prior to Alpha. I had lots of questions and was struggling with my faith and my relationship with God at that point. A friend advised me to do Alpha and it was the best decision I could have made!
What did you expect of the Alpha course? I expected the Alpha course to teach and to hold discussions on all sorts of subjects. I expected to be able to ask about and gain clarification on some big questions. I expected to meet new people to share thoughts and ideas with.
Tell us your experience: I didn't know anyone at the beginning so felt daunted but I found a table where we soon got to know each other. There were a few brilliant moments on our table; we found table prayer to be really beneficial for each other, we also had weeks when we really shared a true understanding of what we had been discussing. The highlight for me was learning so much in such a short space of time as well as meeting new people. The course was well facilitated by clergy and table leaders which made the experience brilliant.
How has the Alpha course impacted on your life? I have found that my relationship with God is now going from strength to strength and my faith is stronger than ever. I can see God working in my life on a daily basis giving me guidance, strength and support also knowing God loves me makes me feel happier. I still have a long way to go as I'm only at the beginning but I feel positive about the future.
If you've got questions about life and want the chance to explore, our next Alpha Course starts on Wednesday 8 Oct 7-9.15pm at St George's Centre, LS1 3BR. It's free and you are welcome to come join us for a meal, talk and discussion. Find out more here.
